The story behind Finca Rio Colorado Washed SHB

Rio Colorado is situated in the Palencia Municipality. The Colom brothers originally owned the property; they acquired it from their father in 1920. In 1950, Mr. José Colom returned from California after finishing his agricultural education. He promoted the crop among his neighbors by giving out free seedlings, making him a genuine pioneer of coffee in Palencia who helped make coffee the dominant crop in the region.

Ana Beatriz Colom and her two kids now lead the family-owned farm. They focus on creating premium coffees, managing renovations, and generating seedlings to guarantee quality. The coffee is pulped and washed in the state's traditional wet mill.

Río Colorado is a family business that Ana Beatriz Colom and her two children run. They specialize in high-quality coffees, producing seedlings to ensure quality and manage renovations. The coffee is pulped and washed in the state's traditional wet mill. The coffee crop will thereafter get organic fertilizer made from the pulp. Natural tanks efficiently purify residual waters to stop river pollution. In addition to growing other crops, including tomato, beans, maize, avocado, banana, and jocote, Rio Colorado primarily cultivates coffee. Additionally, it features vermiculture projects (organic fertilizer) for marketing and internal usage, livestock and tilapia rearing, cartridge plantations, and vermiculture. All of this is made possible by the farm's location between 1,400 and 1,700 meters above sea level, on hilly soils, with plenty of rain and humidity.

The property is surrounded by three lovely rivers: the Colorado, Danta, and San Miguel, as well as seven artificial ponds. There is also a 533-hectare natural forest reserve, mostly pine, cypress, and oak trees.
